E5: Cracking The Code Of Talent

Talent is a special thing. It’s often referred to as a natural aptitude or skill.

I disagree with this definition. Athletes at the Olympics are not naturals at what they do. They worked harder at developing their talent than others. They know how to persevere. Saying they have a natural aptitude or skill is just a way to drink the Kool-Aid.

There are two key ingredients for developing talent. The first is what I’ve already mentioned—perseverance. The second is being methodical.

When a person is methodical, perseverance, which begins as trial and error, becomes directed through a process or method that leads to our intended goal.

This topic is now going very technical. Please listen to the previous episode on moxie before you continue.

Remember the visual metaphor for the Descartes’ four precepts I gave you in the previous episode. This is what I said about it…

Each step, and the efforts within each step of Descartes’ Four Precepts, takes moxie. When you tightly weave various moxie efforts together into something you can repeat as a whole at will, this becomes a skillset—a talent.

The Descartes’ Four Precepts is a particular talent. It’s a talent for developing any talent.

Did your jaw just drop? If not, listen to that again and again until it does because it should.

When people say you can't teach talent, you now know they are misinformed and you have the recipe, process or methodology to prove it.

Let’s look at the finer details to learn how we liberate talent.
